The Mexican Law is a type of law enforcement faction that operate around Escalera, Chuparosa, El Matadero, and Torquemada. There are also eight playable lawmen characters in Multiplayer, under the name Federales. Mexican Law in Red Dead Redemption greet the player upon turning in a bounty target.

Once the player gains a bounty, Mexican Law officers will try to arrest it. Fleeing into the Wilderness will cause posses of lawmen to assault the player at random intervals.

Even in settlements like Casa Madrugada, they will still come into town and attempt to bring Marston down during a pursuit.

While most officers do not wear a uniform, there is a group of uniformed Mexican Lawmen, similar to the police in Blackwater. The non-uniformed ones all wear the same badge, which is a different badge than the uniformed officers. They operate mostly in Escalera while the non-uniformed officers have jurisdiction in the rest of Nuevo Paraíso

Of note is that the casually-dressed lawmen bear a resemblance to the Mexican Rurales of this time period. The name referred to the Guardia Rural, the mounted federal police force of Mexico that existed from 1861-1914. They were distinct from the Federales in that they were deployed exclusively to rural areas mainly to combat banditry. The term "Federales" itself use to refers to the Mexican Army during that time period and may just be a catchall for Mexican federal law enforcement now.

Known members

In Multiplayer, the Federales set of playable characters in the Outfitter are modeled after the members of the Mexican Law in Singleplayer. They can also be seen in towns as well as attacking players with bounties.

  • Due to their uniform having a military look, the lawmen that patrol Escalera can be easily mistaken as Mexican army officers.
  • The non-uniformed officers can sometimes be accompanied by a uniformed officer during a pursuit.
  • Once "An Appointed Time" is completed, Reyes' Rebels will come after Marston during pursuits instead of Mexican Lawmen.
  • Killing a Mexican Lawman after "An Appointed time" will still counts as an law officer kill and give the player a bounty.
