Red Dead Wiki

The Muskrat is a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Muskrat is a medium-sized semiaquatic rodent native to North America and an introduced species in parts of Europe, Asia, and South America. The muskrat is found in wetlands over a wide range of climates and habitats. It has important effects on the ecology of wetlands, and is a resource of food and fur for humans.[1]

The American Muskrat's main habitat is along the rivers and shores of New Austin, West Elizabeth, Lemoyne and New Hanover. As omnivores, their diet consists of aquatic vegetation, small fish, and amphibians. The Varmint Rifle is the most effective way of hunting these rodents. Muskrat skin and scent glands can be used for crafting, and their stringy meat can be used for cooking.[2]

The muskrat can be found in virtually all major waterways, with the highest concentration in Bluewater Marsh.

  • The Varmint Rifle is the most effective weapon for hunting these animals.
  • Muskrats may bite the player if they are on foot. However, the attack only has the effect of stunning the player for a few seconds and the attacking animal will flee afterwards.
  • Muskrats naturally feed and are active all times of the day but are most active at night.
