—'Nate Harlow' winning in Showdown Mode |
Nate Harlow is a central character featured in Red Dead Revolver. He is also referenced in Red Dead Redemption.
Nate Harlow is one of the last characters to be available in Showdown Mode and his special ability makes him invisible for a full minute unless he shoots his pistol. He can only be unlocked when the player purchases a Pan from the General Store, right before the Battle Royale.
History[]
Background[]
Nate is a prospector who discovered gold in Bear Mountain with his partner Griffon. Nate and Griff had a pair of pistols made called the Scorpion Revolvers and went their separate ways. Years before, Nate married a Native American woman called Falling Star and she gave birth to a son called Red Harlow, in honor of Star's tribe, the Red Wolf Tribe. He also knew Running Moon before the events of the game.
Events of Red Dead Revolver[]
Nate is seen in the opening cutscene "Bull's Eye", where he returns home to his wife Falling Star and his son Red after a successful gold prospecting trip. He shows his Scorpion Revolver to Red, claiming he will one day inherit it and then gives his old Pistol to Red, who tests out his new pistol. Not long after, a group of bandits, led by Colonel Daren attack their home. Nate and Red fight bravely while Star hides in the house, killing all of the attackers except Daren and two others, but it was in vain. Nate and Falling Star are killed by Daren himself. Red, however, escapes after wounding Colonel Daren with Nate's burnt Scorpion.
Nate is mentioned at the end of "Saloon Fight", where Sheriff Bartlett claims Red is his son after he finds out.
Nate is lastly seen in a flashback in "Battle Finale", when Red remembers his conversation with Nate about the Scorpion Revolvers and Griff.
Redemption Saga[]
Note: The events of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 are not considered part of the same canon as Red Dead Revolver. The following description is therefore not contiguous with the preceding section on Red Dead Revolver.
Nate never physically appears during the events of the Redemption Saga; however, his death and betrayal from Griffon is often talked about around campfires in Red Dead Redemption[1][2]. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Nate is indirectly mentioned during a campfire story about Red.[3]
Missions appearances[]
- Red Dead Revolver
- "Bull's Eye"
- "Bar Fight" (mentioned)
- "Battle Finale" (flashback)
Sheriff Bartlett's Journal[]
Nate Harlow and his journal can be unlocked once the player has purchased the Pan from the Brimstone General Store. He is listed in Sheriff Bartlett's Journal under the Memories of the Past section.
Trivia[]
- Sheriff Bartlett's journal claims that he likes to keep some chewing Tobacco in his pocket to trade with, just in case.
- After playing a match with Nate in Showdown Mode, the cards at the end that show the player's score will show Nate without his hat and a different facial structure, more akin to Hank Pullman. This is in fact his beta character version called "Father", which was an overweight man in a red shirt who looked very similar to Pullman.
- Nate and Griff (when he was young) can be seen pictured on the Broken Creek's second pages, although they are not as visible and only grey in color.
