Ned Keane is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.

History[]

Background[]

Ned Keane established his saloon in Valentine at some point prior to 1898.

Events of Red Dead Online[]

Keane can be seen tending to his saloon and offers the protagonist beer and whiskey for $ 0.50 each.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]

Horseshoe Overlook Chapter[]

Keane is encountered for the first time when starting the side quest "The Noblest of Men, and a Woman". He can be seen cleaning a glass and pouring some drinks to his customers; Theodore Levin and Jim "Boy" Calloway.

After that interaction, the player can buy beer, whiskey, and oatmeal in his saloon.

Alternatively, if the player doesn't initiate the aforementioned stranger mission, he is seen the first time during the mission "The Sheep and the Goats", in which Keane serves a bottle of whiskey to Arthur and Dutch.

Saint Denis Chapter[]

Later on, in the second part of "The Noblest of Men, and a Woman", the player asks him out about the whereabouts of Levin and Calloway. After answering their question by telling him they are on a riverboat in Saint Denis, the player leaves his saloon.

Trivia[]

  • On several occasions, he will complain about people preferring Smithfield's Saloon, which was founded after his saloon, over his own.
  • Several people with his last name are buried on the graveyard of Valentine, likely relatives of Keane. Additionally, Keane's Rooms, a hotel in the town, might also be operated by one of his relatives.
  • If the player steals the bottle of Gin, located on one of the tables, Keane will either run away or shoot at them with his Sawed-Off Shotgun.
  • After completing the random encounter in which a horse kicks and kills his owner, Keane will reveal to the player that the man was a friend of his and will remark the event as unbelievable.
  • Occasionally, Keane may ask the player if they have seen his friend who lives right across the street from his saloon, referring to the directionally-challenged drunk random encounter.
  • By the Epilogue, a building in between Smithfield's Saloon and the Doctor's Office is constructed, titled "Keane's Rooms for Rent." This implies that as Smithfield's Saloon grew more popular, Keane looked to more methods of making money, such as opening other businesses.
  • In the Epilogue, Keane appears to have lost some weight and his hair is more grayer.
