Old World Scripts is a point of interest in Red Dead Redemption 2, in the Roanoke Ridge region of the New Hanover territory.
It is situated northeast of Annesburg and southeast of Manito Glade.
Description[]
Located as far northeast as the player can travel, the Old World Script can be found in Roanoke Ridge and is one of the easiest points of interest to find. Veering off the path north of Annesburg, the player can find a rather large rock amongst the shrubbery.
The rock (known as a runestone) is engraved with phoenician letters in the middle, and also consists of a serpent, ingraved with runic letters/symbols, which surrounds the text in the middle. The text in the middle, if read left-to-right, translates to the following: "We arrived by boat. Beautiful land, gracious people. So we left them to live in peace". The meaning of the runes ingraved in the serpent is unknown.
Trivia[]
- Just like the Old Tomb, the Old World Scripts is based off of the fact that Norsemen from Scandinavia were able to reach the Americas during their travels and expeditions of Iceland and Greenland in the 10th century AD, about half a millennium before Christopher Columbus reached the continent in 1492. However, they are not believed to have ever traveled as far south and west as where Red Dead Redemption 2 is set.
- Although the Phoenician alphabet is the most prominent writing on the stone, Phoenicians were most likely unaware of the existence of America. This could be a reference to the theory of Phoenician discovery of the Americas.
