Oleander Sage

Oleander Sage is a plant that can be found and sold in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Description[]

Oleander Sage shrubs can be identified by the thin leaves and small five petal pink flowers. The popular herb can be seen growing near the river banks of Bayou Nwa. This shrub is considered to be one of the most poisonous plants in America and should never be consumed. The cardiac glycoside poisons produced by this plant can be used to craft deadly poison.^[1]

Usage[]

If consumed, the protagonist will vomit and lose a large amount of health. Eating 4 or 5 even with max health results in death. It is useful for manually causing a fail screen if a mission is glitched or broken.

Due to it being a poison, Oleander Sage is necessary to craft poisonous weapons, such as Poison Arrows and Poison Throwing Knives.

Lemoyne:
- Macomb's End: Just west of the "n" in "End", on the river bank.
- On the north bank of the Kamassa River, almost straight north from the docks at Caliga Hall.
- To the east of the "N" in "Lemoyne", on the inside of the curve of the river.
- Between the "O" in "Lemoyne" and the bank of the river.
- North of the "n" in Prinz & Co., next to the train track.
- East of the "U" in Bayou Nwa on the small island southwest of Lakay.
- Southwest of the "N" in Bayou Nwa, west of the creepy stranger's house.
- West of Bayall Edge on the east bank of the Kamassa River, on the little point north of the "K" in Kamassa. There are 5 plants in this area.
- West of the "d" in Siltwater Strand on the edge of the river, then continue west to the railroad bridge where you will find more. Keep heading south along the river bank.

Trivia[]

Oleander Sage is based on the Oleander shrub (Nerium oleander), in real life. There is no existing sage species with the qualities or flower type shown by this "sage" in Redemption 2. Nerium is known to have brightly colored flowers, toxic properties and a bitter taste.
Two moonshiners may request that Arthur or John add Oleander Sage to their moonshine to improve it. The moonshiner who samples it will be fatally poisoned and collapse dead in seconds, gagging and writhing in pain. His partner will turn hostile towards the player and shoot him.
- Another random encounter will have the player run across a man who ingested oleander sage pleading for medicine. Giving him medicine will save him and gain the player honor.
  - While the two men above collapse dead within seconds of ingesting Oleander Sage, the player simply vomits if they eat the plant, with multiple doses needed to have a fatal effect. It can be inferred that Arthur and John immediately spit out the oleander after chewing it rather than swallowing it or simply have a more resilient immune system.
