Mr. Marston... Mr. Smith... Mr. MacGuire... get over there. When she slows, board her. I'm gonna make sure she slows.
Arthur Morgan

Pouring Forth IV is a mission in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Mission Overview[]

Blocking the tracks with the heavy oil wagon, Arthur, John, Charles and Sean board the train and rob valuables from the rich passengers and baggage car.

Story[]

Arthur arrives at the stolen oil wagon and finds that Sean is already there, practicing his quickdraw with bottles, wanting to show he could do well in combat. The two of them exchange friendly insults, and Arthur shoots a bottle by a quickdraw. Sean convinces Arthur to let him come along on the robbery with him (despite John not wanting him to come), though Arthur is doubtful, even comparing Sean to Micah to which Sean shows disapproval by referring to Micah as "oily turd". Sean teases Arthur, saying that he is threatened by his "youthful vigor". The two then wait for nightfall.

Once night comes, John and Charles arrive and the gang drive to a railroad crossing on the state line between New Hanover and Lemoyne. Arthur parks the wagon on the tracks and unhitches the horses, while the other three wait and hide. Arthur stands on top of the wagon as the train is forced to stop. The driver gets out and is knocked unconscious by Charles as Arthur boards the train. Arthur and John storm the carriages and proceed to rob the passengers, during which Arthur tells Sean to look for the baggage car. Upon reaching the third carriage, John tells Arthur to go on ahead and help Sean. Arthur finds Sean who has found the baggage car, but just as he enters, a guard bashes Sean on the head as more guards appear, forcing Arthur to kill them. Arthur then loots the baggage car while Sean recovers.

Sean then sees a pair of lawmen arrive and order the gang to surrender. Arthur tells them to leave since there is just two of them, but soon has to eat his words when more lawmen appear from the trees, forcing the gang to open fire. After a short firefight, Arthur and the gang get on their horses and ride away.

After escaping the lawmen, the four share the take and split up, agreeing to meet back at camp.

Gold Medal Objectives[]

  • Kill all the train guards before Sean fires a shot.
  • Clear the baggage car of loot.
  • Escape the Law within 1 minute 30 seconds.
  • Get 10 kills in Dead Eye.
  • Complete the mission without taking any health items.

Deaths[]

Mission Failure[]

The mission will fail if the player:

  • Assaults, kills or abandons John, Charles or Sean;
  • Allows John, Charles or Sean to be killed;
  • Destroys or disables the oil wagon;
  • Takes too long to reach the tracks;
  • Kills any of the train passengers during the robbery;
  • Kills or abandons their horse;
  • Dies.

Trivia[]

  • The Cattleman Revolver is a single-action revolver. Sean swings out the revolver when reloading, which would be impossible for the Colt Model 1873 SAA.
  • According to the second trailer, Lenny and Bill were originally intended to be part of the robbery, but were scrapped during the development.
  • Near the end of the mission, John expresses his suspicion of how quickly the lawmen turned up. A newspaper article, available following the mission, states that the law enforcement had been warned of the robbery beforehand.[1] How they had been tipped off is unclear. Arthur will also tell Dutch that law enforcement arrived too quickly in camp. This dialogue is perhaps the first hint of a rat in the gang.
  • Regardless of whether the player has completed "A Fisher of Men", Arthur will mention that the Pinkertons have found him near Horseshoe Overlook. This is likely an oversight.
  • This mission shares a striking resemblance with the well-known train robbery scene from the 2007 film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, specifically the shots of the approaching train, the gang members waiting in the trees, and Arthur standing atop the oil wagon silhouetted by the train's lights.
  • After this mission, players will be able to mark targets manually using Dead Eye.
  • Most likely due to a glitch, it is possible to become unable to loot the baggage car, and thus become unable to get a Gold Medal for the mission if the guards in the car are killed in a way that positions their bodies on top, and/or extremely close to the chests the player is supposed to loot. The guards themselves cannot be picked up, and occasionally, not looted either, likely the result of another glitch.
    • There is also another glitch which causes the train to approach the crossing at a ridiculously high speed, too fast for the player to park the oil wagon over the tracks in time and ultimately failing the mission. The best way to counter this is to literally floor it to the crossing, using the creek bed to save precious little time you have before the train spawns.
  • If the player has a different weapon in the long-arm shoulder slot, it will switch to a Carbine Repeater for the cutscene when the train stops.
  • After the final cutscene, even though Arthur tells the gang to split up, Sean, Charles and John head straight to Horseshoe Overlook together when the mission is done.
