The California Quail (or simply just Quail) is a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Description[]

Quail are small, agile birds which are mostly terrestrial, but can fly when spooked, similar to Turkeys. They make slight coo sounds when they have not noticed the player.

Location[]

Quail can be found in and around Strawberry in Big Valley, with populations stretching to the northwest toward Mount Shann, southeast toward the Upper Montana River, and northeast toward Carmody Dell into The Heartlands. They can rarely also be found in New Austin, near Hamlin's Passing. The easiest spawn for quail is Lone Mule Stead, near Bard's Crossing.

Trivia[]

  • The portrait, model, call, compendium icon and behavior of the bird in Red Dead Redemption 2 all actually depict the northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus), a different gamebird species found in the eastern USA, instead of the California quail (Callipepla californica). This can be assumed to be a simple naming error by the developers, or the actual California quail (different type) was actually planned before being scrapped and the name reused for the bobwhite quail.
