The Rat is a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Description

Location

The rat has the highest populations among the eastern regions, with pockets sprinkled through the central areas and a larger concentration between Owanjila and Strawberry in Big Valley. Rats are also prevalent in the cave right north of the Elysian Pool and waterfall. Rats are very scarce in the Grizzlies and almost nonexistent in New Austin, with the exception of Armadillo. The rats can also be in a crowd in a random encounter with the bartender in Saint Denis were he will tell you that his bar is infested with rats but they might not be perfect 3 star rats.

Challenges

Tips

A Perfect Rat is needed for the second request from the Wildlife Art Exhibition.
Ten Perfect Rats are needed to make the Rat Flat Cap at the Trapper.
Use a Bow with Small Game Arrows for a clean kill.

Trivia

Unlike with other killed or fished mangy and poisoned animals, the pelts and carcasses of killed mangy rats are considered Perfect (the best loot ranking for hunted animals).
There are two random encounters in Saint Denis where Doyle will ask you to clear his bar of rats. If done correctly, this will give you the required amount of rat pelts the trapper needs for all items.
During "American Venom", a rat can be seen exiting Micah's cabin when John is approaching.
