Ray is the owner of Warthington Ranch in Hennigan's Stead, one of the many small farms located in New Austin. His wife, Louisa Warthington, is buried at Odd Fellow's Rest.

Ray is usually working at Warthington Ranch when he isn't gambling in the nearby towns of Armadillo and Thieves' Landing, playing Five Finger Fillet or Liar's Dice. He can be also seen at Pacific Union Railroad Camp or Ridgewood Farm doing odd jobs. Ray can also sometimes be seen riding through various Mexican town, such as Escalera or Chuparosa. The player may also encounter Ray being tied and dragged by a wild posse in a town.
