Rifles are a class of weapons that appear in Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption, and Red Dead Redemption 2, and Red Dead Online.

DescriptionEdit

Rifles are medium to long range weapons. During the time of Red Dead Redemption, the types and calibers of rifles available varied greatly; anything from muzzle loaders to cutting edge semi-automatic rifles could be found in the West. This diversity is well represented in the game. Rifles are located on the bottom of the weapon selection wheel.

The rifles that appear in Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption can be broken into three categories: repeaters, high-powered rifles, and scoped rifles as detailed in the sections below.

RepeatersEdit

DescriptionEdit

Repeaters have large capacities and fast rates of fire, but lower accuracy and power. Lever-action rifles are best used in close to medium-range engagements, and for hunting small, agile game such as birds and rabbits. Repeaters use Repeater Ammo.

High-Powered RiflesEdit

DescriptionEdit

High-powered rifles are at the opposite end of the spectrum in every way when compared to repeaters. These weapons are powerful and accurate, capable of dropping enemies and medium sized game in one shot, if used correctly. However, they suffer from low rates of fire and small magazines. These weapons excel in medium to long range engagements and as general-purpose hunting rifles. High-powered rifles use Rifle Ammunition.

Scoped RiflesEdit

LocationsEdit

Rifles can be purchased at any Gunsmith in Red Dead Redemption I and II. In addition, some weapons will be given to the player, found on missions, found as a form of loot in gang hideouts, and in case of the Buffalo Rifle, obtained from challenges.

TriviaEdit

  • Rifles, like other longarms, are carried on the back of the protagonists in three different ways during the series: in Revolver they are carried with the stock over the right shoulder and the trigger upwards; in Redemption the stock is over the left shoulder and the trigger downwards; in Redemption 2, it's the barrel that points up over the left shoulder and the trigger facing up.
