Rufus Higbee is wanted for petty theft and can be captured or killed depending on the player's choice. He is part of the Walton's Gang.

Red Dead Redemption

Rufus can normally be encountered in the Armadillo Saloon, where he can be killed without gaining a bounty. He can also be encountered in one of the gang hideouts controlled by Walton's Gang, however, he will be hostile. In Solomons Folly he can be heard mocking other gang members for stealing the bank's vault.

Undead Nightmare

In Undead Nightmare, Rufus can be found defending the settlement of Twin Rocks where he is on the roof of the middle building, and is often the survivor leader. If Twin Rocks is saved and Rufus survives, he will stay on the roof, however he may later move to sit around the fire with his comrades.

The player may also come across Rufus fighting off a horde of the undead. Without the player's assistance, he will be killed. If he is saved, he will reward the player with a few bullets of a random ammo type. Alternatively, if the player does not possess a treasure map, he may reward the player with one.

• After the Liars and Cheats DLC has been downloaded, Rufus will appear during the gang hideouts at Critchley's Ranch and Venter's Place, armed with a Double-barreled Shotgun.
