Biography in RDR 2 (click to enlarge)

A young Irishman of Rebel stock, Sean came to America joining the Van der Linde gang at some point prior to 1899. Youthful and energetic, he may not be the sharpest knife in the shed, but he’s definitely a good wild card for the gang to have in a fight.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

Horseshoe Overlook Chapter

After the botched ferry robbery in Blackwater, Sean became separated from the others and was one of the few members who did not end up with the gang in their new hideout at Colter.

After moving to Horseshoe Overlook, a new hideout close to the town of Valentine, the gang hears from Josiah Trelawny that Sean was captured by bounty hunters. Arthur, accompanied by Javier, Charles and Trelawny set out to rescue Sean. They meet on a hilltop overlooking Blackwater where they discuss their options, deciding to rescue him before he reaches a Federal Prison that he was being transferred to. After spotting Sean being escorted off a boat, Trelawny decides to distract some officers, allowing the other three to kill the officers undetected. Soon after, a large gunfight ensues, resulting in the gang finding Sean hanging upside-down from a tree at a camp. After being freed, Sean and the four greet each other and return to camp.

After his rescue, a celebration party is thrown for Sean at the new camp. Sean (along with the rest of the gang) gets exceedingly drunk. As the night wears on, he accosts an equally imbibed Karen. Sean begins telling Karen he loves her, to which she replies that he only loves her when he's drunk, she can see in his eyes that he hates her, and she hates him too. He insists that he loves her, and the pair retire to John Marston's tent where they promptly begin to make love. Midway through, Karen starts crying and Sean asks if she wants to stop, to which Karen says no, she just wants someone to "see her". Sean exclaims "I see you, Karen!" whilst the pair continue to make love. As soon as the act is over, Karen exits the tent and a disappointed Sean asks, "You're going...? Oh, well... I'll see you in the morning, then".

Sean decided to join Arthur, Charles, and John on the train robbery, despite not being invited. He is sent to loot the baggage car and is almost killed in a tussle with guards further up the train, but is saved by Arthur.

Clemens Point Chapter

He was like an annoying little brother to me... what fun we had riding together.
Arthur lamenting Sean's demise.

Sean joins Arthur and Hosea Matthews in working for Catherine Braithwaite, who asks them to burn the tobacco fields and products owned by the rival Gray family. Sean talks his way into Caliga Hall with Arthur in the back, where they hide their wagon and eliminate a Gray security guard accompanying them. Sean joins Arthur in pouring moonshine over the tobacco fields before igniting them with fire bottles. After fighting off the Grays, the two find payroll from another wagon and flee the area.

During this chapter, he can also rob a homestead with Arthur, and a stagecoach with Arthur and Mary-Beth Gaskill.

Sean is present alongside Bill Williamson and Micah Bell in the town of Rhodes, joining the two and Arthur on a potential “job” providing security for the Gray family. However, as the four are walking through the street, they are ambushed by the Grays’ hired guns, and Sean is immediately killed by a shot to the head from a sniper.

After clearing the area and killing Sheriff Gray, a furious Arthur blamed Sean's death on Bill and Micah's carelessness. Arthur expresses his affection for Sean and asks Bill to give him a proper burial. Sean's death also affects Karen, who becomes an embittered alcoholic and refuses to have anything to do with the gang.

Character

Personality

MacGuire is said to be a cheerful man who enjoys spending his time telling stories at the gang's campfires, which he tells with "boundless enthusiasm"[1]. He loves being a part of the action, but he is relatively inexperienced and often overestimates his own abilities. At Clemens Point, he will intentionally try to annoy Arthur, calling him 'English' and 'King Arthur'.

Sean has a generic, very much a stereotypical Irish accent. Unlike Molly O'Shea, who has a distinct Dublin accent, MacGuire's is more hard to pinpoint. The actor, Michael Mellamphy is a Cork native but MacGuire has no distinct Cork accent.[2]

Appearance

Sean has ginger shoulder-length hair and is slightly unshaven. He appears to wear a jacket of a faded blue color over a dirty white shirt and a vest, accompanied by blue trousers and a hat.
