The Sheep is a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Description[]
Merino Sheep are domesticated animals. They can be encountered in ranches. Valentine is famous for being a sheep-auctioning town, and Merino Sheep can be seen in large numbers in the town's sheep-pens. Occasionally, a shepherd can be encountered outside various settlements, herding Merino Sheep with a dog.
Like with all ranch animals, killing Merino Sheep will result in a loss of honor, as they are passive and docile. Hunting Merino Sheep in ranches and towns will turn nearby ranchers and civilians hostile, and witnesses can report the killing as Animal Cruelty to local lawmen. Skinning Merino Sheep will yield sheep hide and Gristly Mutton.

Merino sheep can be found in select ranches across the map. Players may also find them being herded early in the game within New Hanover, near Horseshoe Overlook's gang camp.
Tips[]
- Given that murdering sheep is a crime, it is best to hunt Merino Sheep silently using a bow with regular arrows to avoid hostility or lawmen intervention.
- Additionally, it is recommended that players hunt ranch animals during midnight where there's fewer or no witnesses.
- Perfect sheep hide can be sold to the Trapper to create different pieces of clothing, namely the Legendary Elk Half Chaps, Trapper's Cloak, Huntsman Vest and the Sheepskin Vest.

- Merino Sheep never spawn in one-star quality.
- A unique Merino Sheep with a pink ribbon can be encountered at Heartland Overflow.[1] The sheep can be seen traveling alone, and killing the sheep will result in a loss of honor. The player cannot skin the sheep, but they can loot a golden wedding ring from the sheep.
- A near identical sheep may be found dead in a shed with yet another wedding ring at the nearby Guthrie Farm, next to a half-naked human corpse.
