Professor Shiftacre came from New Haven to verify a collection of paintings purchased by Saint Denis Mayor Henri Lemieux for a new museum, and recognized that they were all fake. The Mayor, however, wanted to change his opinion on his fake paintings.
The Mayor sends the protagonist and Jean-Marc Mercier to find Shiftacre. Upon seeing him leaving Galerie Laurent, the protagonist follows him to a secluded spot in an empty alley. At first, they try to peacefully persuade Shiftacre not to speak about the paintings, and when he refuses, they proceed to beat and threaten him, until he finally agrees to change his mind and not reveal that the paintings are fake.
