The Shire is a horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Most coat types will need to be stolen, though the Raven Black is acquired through the course of the story. Shires pull wagons and coaches, so they tend to have higher stamina and health, but lower speed and acceleration compared to riding horses. Their handling gives them low reactivity and agility.

Description[]

Shire horses are classed as draft horses. They can be identified by their heavyset frame, lower leg feathering and convex head profile. They are the largest and strongest breed of horse, which makes them perfect for hauling heavy carts, though their size and weight can make them more difficult to handle. This breed is known for being healthy, with average Speed and Stamina levels.

Catalogue Description[]

Their immense size has made Shire horses a favorite throughout the ages. They are calm with an even temperament, a characteristic that is required for an animal pulling a cart full of valuable goods. They have a slightly Roman nose, well-muscled hindquarters and a long neck that is set high, and are a great replacement for oxen on farms. With a sturdy and strong nature, they are the healthiest in our line.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego", Arthur Morgan is tasked to take Hosea Matthew's stolen Raven Black Shire to the stables in Valentine. At the stable, the player may choose to either sell the horse and buy another or stable him as their own. If they do not have a version with the War Horse or the Reverse Dapple Black Thoroughbred, keeping him is suggested; his high health and courageous temperament makes him an excellent horse for combat situations, and the other horses in the stables are not particularly good.
  • Hosea says his stolen shire is temperamental and tough to ride, but he seemingly gives no indication of being so. However, it is possible that what Hosea is saying is supposed to be a clue meant for the player referring to the Raven Black Shire's noticeable bravery and durability, and that they should keep him.
