The Shire is a type of horse players can ride in Red Dead Redemption II. Most coat types will need to be stolen, though the Raven Black is acquired through the course of gameplay. Shires pull wagons and coaches, so tend to have higher stamina and health, but lower speed and acceleration compared to riding horses. Its handling gives it low reactivity and agility.

Compendium Description

Shire horses are classed as draft horses. They can be identified by their heavyset frame, lower leg feathering and convex head profile. They are among the largest and strongest breeds of horse, which makes them perfect for hauling heavy carts, though their size and weight can make them more difficult to handle. This breed is known for being healthy, with average Speed and Stamina levels.

Trivia

  • At the beginning of Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego, Arthur is tasked to take Hosea's stolen Raven Black Shire to the stables in Valentine. At the stable, you may choose to either sell the horse and buy another or stable him as your own. If you do not have a version with the Waar Horse or Dappled Black Thoroughbred, keeping it is suggested; as his high health and courageous temperament makes it an excellent horse for combat situations, and the other horses in the stables are not particularly good.
  • Hosea says his stolen shire is tempermental and tough to ride, but it gives no indication of being so.
