Simple Pleasures is a mission in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Mission Overview[]
Using the pseudonym "Jim Milton," John has secured a job as a hand at Pronghorn Ranch, and gets to work.
Story[]
The mission begins when John enters a blacksmith in Pronghorn Ranch. John converses with foreman Tom Dickens and ranch owner David Geddes, during which he accidentally introduces himself as "John," but he quickly corrects himself, saying "Jim Milton." This arouses some suspicion, although nothing dangerous. Geddes praises John's acts of protecting the ranch earlier, before leaving the building.
Dickens calls over a fellow ranch hand named Abe to meet John, and instructs Abe to give him something to do. As the two leave the building and walk through the ranch, Abe points out a wagon parked outside John's cabin, with Abigail and Jack on it from Strawberry. John asks Abe not to mention the previous day's incident with the Laramie Gang, but Abigail corners him; she has already been made aware and warns John of his reckless behavior.
John defends himself, saying yesterday's wagon chase led to him finding work on the ranch in the first place. John then joins Abe in walking to the cattle shed, where he milks a cow. Jack joins his father to help clean out the horse stables. While shoveling manure, John remarks "You're a long way from Angelo Bronte's mansion now" to which Jack seems to have no recollection as to what he is referring to.
While Jack finishes up in the stables, John returns to the house for a conversation with Abigail. Abigail tells John that she's tired of fleeing and wants to settle down. The following day, John can be seen waking up next to Abigail as he leaves the house, preparing to work for his third day on the ranch.

Missable Items in the Mission[]
- John's Gambler's Hat (The player needs to make their hat fall off before, during or after the mission)
Trivia[]
- After the mission John will be wearing the white, worn gambler hat he wore in 1899. The hat is missable and can only be added to the wardrobe by losing it and picking it up again, which is easily done by antagonizing/picking a fight with someone on the road directly next to the ranch or agitating/slapping a horse on the rear to ensure the player gets kicked.
- After this mission, free roam is finally unlocked for the first time as John Marston. The player can choose to meet Tom Dickens for more work at the ranch or David Geddes.
