The Standard Horse is a type of horse in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.

Events of Red Dead Online[]
In 1892, Revenue Agent Reid Hixon rode this horse during a raid on Maggie Fike's moonshine business, where she was burned alive. The Standard horse can also be seen in the intro to trader being ridden by JB Cripps,[1] and in the intro to bounty hunting by the Woman With No Name.[2]
Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]
During the intro cutscene in "Outlaws from the West", Micah Bell and Javier Escuella are riding this horse. The horse can then be seen again in the background of "We Loved Once and True II", and during "Motherhood"; being the horse John Marston brushes at the beginning and the one ridden by the postal carrier. The horse is then seen once more in "A Quick Favor for an Old Friend" being ridden by one of the banditos coming to break out Ramón Cortez and finally in John's flashback of him and Jack by the river during "A New Jerusalem". This horse cannot be obtained or ridden by the player, but can be brushed, fed, and have the saddlebags looted in "Motherhood".
Description[]
This horse can never be ridden by the player through normal means, but attempting to do so through the use of either a mod or a glitch allows the player to ride this horse, however the horse cannot be bonded with or studied and attempting to inspect the horse lists the name of the horse as "Unknown Animal". The breed of this horse is unlike any other in the game though there are some resemblances to the American Standardbred, and the body as well as the coat color appears to be unrealistic which may have been why this horse rarely appears in the final game.
Attempting to spawn in this horse manually results in a red saddle (which appears in every appearance except for "Motherhood") appearing on the horse which cannot be removed without modding the game. In "Motherhood", a different saddle is used but regardless the horse will always have horseshoes which are typically reserved for gang horses. The horse technically has no stats leading to them all being at their lowest and they cannot be increased, this horse can never be stabled as a result.
Trivia[]
- This horse was apparently originally intended to be used in place of the Raven Black Shire given to Arthur Morgan by Hosea Matthews during the mission "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" as seen in the Official Gameplay Reveal trailer for the game[3], but this model was removed from the game entirely in an update.
- Internally, this horse is used as a sort of placeholder in many cutscene files and is typically replaced with another horse through a script. There are only a small handful of exceptions to this, leading to the horse appearing in the aforementioned missions.
- There is also no compendium data as through normal means this horse cannot be studied.
- Sometime after the 1.00 version, this horse's expressions were changed resulting in the horse looking generic as opposed to being a draft breed.
