Telegraph Offices are where the player pays off an active bounty in Red Dead Redemption.
Description[]
When the player has an active bounty, the clerk at the Telegraph Office can be paid either in cash or with a Pardon Letter to remove the bounty. If the clerk is away from the desk, Marston will ring the bell to summon them. If the player is still actively wanted, clerks may not be in the office. Wanted status must be lost before being allowed to pay off the bounty.
It is also important to note that you must go to a Telegraph Office in the country where Marston has an active bounty. You will not be given the option to pay off your bounty or use a Pardon Letter in the United States if you have received a bounty in Mexico and vice-versa.
Background[]
The first commercially viable electric telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse around 1835, and during the second half of the nineteenth century numerous small telegraph companies opened offices throughout the United States. Most of these offices spread along railroad lines, and most Telegraph Offices in Red Dead Redemption can indeed be found at train stations across the region.
