—Charles Smith in "The Aftermath of Genesis" |
The Count is a supporting character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.
He served as the mount of Dutch van der Linde throughout 1899.
History[]
Background[]
At some point prior to the events of the game, Dutch van der Linde came into possession of The Count and the two developed a deep bond together. Arthur Morgan once tried to ride him, only to get bucked "faster than a bull". It is likely Dutch rode him before and during the gang’s time in Blackwater, and possibly for a long time before this.
Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]
Colter Chapter[]
The Count followed the gang deep into the Grizzlies following the Blackwater Massacre, though he is first seen being led by Charles Smith at the gang's camp in an abandoned town called Colter alongside Taima shortly after Dutch gave a speech to the gang. Charles hands the horses over to Dutch and Arthur, who ride them up the mountain on a snowy path. They run into Micah Bell and Baylock, who leads them to Adler Ranch, where he, Baylock and Taima are hitched nearby. A shootout occurs involving members of the O'Driscoll gang, and after they are dealt with, Micah brings the horses closer to the house. Following Micah torching the house, the gang is forced to ride away alongside a victim of the O'Driscolls, Sadie Adler, who rides with Dutch back to Colter on The Count. Dutch then rides him to an O'Driscoll hideout, where he is left nearby prior to a shootout taking place. When the shootout is finished, Javier Escuella and Lenny Summers lead him and the rest of the horses down to the gang before they head back to Colter. Dutch then decides to take him and other members of the gang to rob a train, in which they stop at a ledge near some tracks that are supposed to blow up. This fails, leading to a few members of the gang chasing after the train on foot and the rest riding up to meet with them after the train has stopped. Following a few bonds being stolen from the train, Dutch rides him back to camp.
Horseshoe Overlook Chapter[]
Afterwards, the gang heads to Horseshoe Overlook, and Dutch eventually decides to head into Valentine to discuss some business with Leopold Strauss. This leads to an ambush from Leviticus Cornwall, and after taking out most of Cornwall's men, Dutch rides away on him.
Clemens Point Chapter[]
Following the gang relocating to Clemens Point, Dutch would ride him alongside Hosea Matthews, Silver Dollar, as well as Arthur and his horse but along the way they'd meet with a few lawmen and while Arthur was busy recapturing some escaped criminals, the others would ride into Rhodes to discuss some business. Upon the return of Arthur, he may optionally decide to go fishing and if this happens, they will ride to a nearby lake and The Count as well as the other horses are left behind as Dutch, Hosea, and Arthur get in boats, though they resurface soon thereafter in camp. Otherwise, they will simply be ridden back to camp. Later, he and Brown Jack accompany Dutch, Bill, Arthur, and a deputy to arrest some moonshiners. He and Brown Jack are hitched nearby, and following this, Arthur and his horse as well as he and Dutch head back to camp, however on the way Dutch decides to challenge Arthur and his horse to a race, in which he is given a choice on whether to accept or not. He either loses or wins the race and they arrive back at camp. Later, Dutch decides to head out with Micah, Baylock, Arthur and his horse to try and make peace with the O’Driscolls. When this fails, Dutch and him ride away back to camp. Dutch rides him up to the Braithwaite Manor in "Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern" following Jack Marston's disappearance.
Saint Denis Chapter[]
The gang then decides to relocate once more to Shady Belle, and Dutch rides him into the new camp and then he and Arthur as well as his horse go into Saint Denis to begin looking for clues on Jack's disappearance. He is seen once more after Jack has been recuperated and they escort him back into camp. Dutch then rides him to Lagras and leaves him for a short bit to get access to a boat. Sometime after his return to camp, Dutch takes him and other members of the gang to go and rob the Lemoyne National Bank. After the robbery was found to be a setup, it all ends poorly, and he does not appear again for a while.
Guarma Chapter[]
He is seen again at the gang's new camp in Lakay, meaning he was likely recovered by members of the gang, though he is not ridden during this chapter.
Beaver Hollow Chapter[]
The gang finds a new spot at Beaver Hollow, and Dutch decides to take him out as he tries to recover some horses for the Native Americans. He leaves him for a short bit before coming back after retrieving the horses. During "Favored Sons", Dutch attempts to make a getaway on him before deciding to carry on by foot. Later, Dutch rides him as the gang leads an attack on a Cornwall Factory, before the two ride back into camp. Dutch then takes him and many members of the gang to rob a train during "Our Best Selves", where he and Dutch catch up to the train to allow Arthur to jump on him in order to get further ahead. After this, Dutch and him ride back into camp to start packing. During "Red Dead Redemption", Dutch escapes from the Pinkertons on him, and interestingly enough, he can be seen in the background if the player chooses to help John. After this, however, he is never seen again.
Character[]
Personality[]
According to Charles, he doesn't know what Dutch would do if something happened to The Count, showing how deep of a bond the two share. In concurrence to this, he is skittish towards other people and is very unreceptive to being pet, though he will allow it from time to time.
Appearance[]
The Count has a unique Cremello coat with blue eyes, and his hooves and mouth are pink.
