Background[]
Tobin Winfield III is a disgraced former politician and criminal. While serving as mayor of an unspecified town, he and other corrupt officeholders abused their positions to embezzle tax money and commit other acts of illegal graft. Just as charges were set to be brought against Winfield following the arrest of his cronies, he vanished, along with a pile of valuable public land deeds that he had secretly replaced with forgeries in the city's official records.
Events of Red Dead Online[]
The player, upon purchasing a bounty hunter's license, must track him down to Thieves' Landing. There, Winfield expresses gratitude for being caught, explaining that when he tried to befriend the local outlaws, they stole his money and possessions and took to abusing him physically. He agrees to guide the player to where he's buried the stolen deeds, provided they can keep him safe. The player must then escort Winfield to the deeds, protect him from his abusive "friends", and then take him to jail. They must also be careful not to get Winfield killed before he finds the deeds or lose sight of him lest he take the opportunity to escape.
