The Torch is a weapon found in the Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare DLC pack.

The Torch can be seen in this video.

Description

It is a makeshift weapon consisting of a short stick with a rag or cloth tied around the top. The rag is then doused with fuel and set alight. The torch can be used to light up dark areas, it can burn coffins in graveyards and can also be used to slowly set zombies on fire.

According to Rockstar, the Torch functions exactly how it would be expected: a flaming handle of wood that gives off light. As Undead Nightmare's setting is mostly dark and gray, this could prove to be a useful tool. In Rockstar's demo of the DLC at Comic-Con, it was revealed that the Torch has several other uses. It can be used to burn coffins, a necessary task in one of the DLC's new Graveyards, which function akin to a normal gang hideout. The Torch can also be used to set enemies aflame. If you attack a bear with a Torch it will run in circles and not attack you, however if you stand still it is likely to come back and attack you.

The torch can also be used to perform "execution-style" kills if the player uses it in close quarters while directly facing an attacking zombie. If done correctly the view will briefly switch to a cinematic in which the player impales the zombie through the eye with the sharp end of the torches' handle.

It is quite useless in The new game mode Undead Overrun as it is only resorted to when you have ran out of Ammo, and by that time you are likely to be overwhelmed by Zombies and fighting back with a Torch is likely to end badly for you.

Obtaining

When looking for survivors in Blackwater, Marston is given the torch by a young lady, before heading to Blackwater Cemetary to cleanse it.

Although it is one of the weapons Marston can possess, players cannot "cheat" for it.

Trivia

  • War, one of the Four Horses of the Apocalypse, is scared by the torch when attacked, even though it is on fire itself.
  • The torch essentially replaces the Hunting Knife as your combat weapon in Undead Nightmare.
    • When targeting an enemy with the Torch, Marston will often use his knife fighting quotes.
  • A good tactic is to and ride past your foes in sweeping motions on your horse, swatting enemies with the Torch as you pass by, essentially a "hit and run" strategy. This guarantees an instant kill on most undead, along with being a major help with the Undead Hunter challenges.
  • The Torch can also perform executions when in close range of a Zombie or Sasquatch
  • The torch is noticably much weaker in Undead Overrun, and highly recommended not to be used.
