Hey guys,
I've joined this place in August 2022 and I really enjoy being here! Now I write this blog to talk about the way I became a fan of the wild west and the Red Dead games.
How I became interested in the wild west:
I'm from Germany and I hope you guys know the character "Winnetou". If not, Winnetou is a fictional character by the famous German author Karl May. He's a Native American and the chief of the Apache tribe, who fought for justice and peace, helped the good and destroyed the bad. Although the books about Winnetou were released in 1893, they are still very popular today. Unfortunately some crybabies want to forbid these books because they think that they're racist...but that's typical for Germany in 2022. People create problems where there are none! However, in 1960 the Winnetou books were turned into movies and these movies made me a fan of the wild west. For someone who's born in 2006, it's not typical to grow up with these old movies but luckily my dad took me to a festival in 2015 where the wild west and Winnetou was reenacted. After that my enthusiasm for Winnetou and the wild west was immense. I watched every Winnetou movie and I still have them on DVD and still watch them today, even though I've realized how simple they're made...but I don't care and I'm glad that I grew up with these movies!
How I became a Red Dead fan:
I've never been that much of a gamer. I played some mobile games and I have an Xbox 360 that one of my relatives gifted me in 2016 because he had a newer console. I only played some racing games and Fifa on it. However, a year ago he gifted me a lot of old Xbox 360 games I was too young for at the time he gifted me the console. Most of them were about knights and modern wars which is not the genre of games I like. But when I looked through the games in March again, I found Red Dead Redemption 1. I was like "Oh cool, a western game, I think I'll check it out". Best decision ever! The moment I've started the game, I was amazed by the graphics, because all the western games I had played on my mobile so far, had the worst graphics. When I first controlled John, I immediately loved that game. The music, the atmosphere, the map, the gameplay and everything was perfect! I didn't rush through the story, explored everything and spend so much time playing the game. The story was so amazing, especially Mexico! When John died, I was just speechless and couldn't believe what happened. Killing Ross and putting all my ammo in his corpse was another level of satisfaction. Unfortunately playing as Jack after finishing the story wasn't that much fun as playing as John, because the game felt so empty, depressing and after achieving 100% completion there's nothing to do apart from clearing gang hideouts. Of course I watched a lot of YouTube videos about Red Dead Redemption and this is how I discovered RDR2. I thought I'd never get RDR2, so I just watched what happens and what it's about. I was so confused because I watched so many random clips and also deaths of characters...Dumb move, I know, but still didn't ruin my first playthrough in RDR2. Even though I didn't understand the story context of RDR2, I wanted to play that game so bad. I mean a western game with better graphical quality than the Winnetou movies is all I could've asked for. And in July I finally got myself an Xbox One X and RDR2. And wow man...I've never had a better time in my life! It was so perfect that I can't even describe it. I spend every free second I had playing the game. During my summer vacation, I left my Xbox at home for two weeks and missed the game so bad, so I joined this Wiki to read everything about it and to talk about the game with you guys! When I returned home, I immediately continued playing the game. I was already in Chapter 6 and when Arthur died, I felt so much pain. I saw how he died in the videos I watched before playing the game, but it still hits so hard when it actually happens in your game. But I was also so happy to play as John again, knowing I can play him forever and he won't die in this game. And right now I've entirely completed the game but I'll never get bored playing as John and replaying the story! The Red Dead games changed my life and I'm so glad that I've played these masterpieces!
Why I like Levi Simon and De Santa so much:
I've always liked the bad guys in the wild west and especially in the Winnetou movies. But I never really liked the big boss of antagonistic factions that much. Some of them are very evil and entertaining but most of the time the gang leaders are annoying and let their dirty work be done by their right hand. And I really like these right hand characters because they are evil, but still in the shadow of their boss and do whatever he says.
Levi Simon perfectly meet these criteria - bad guy, in Fussar's shadow and does whatever Fussar says. In my opinion he's the perfect villain and very underrated. He looks and is evil and did all the antagonistic things to prevent the gang from leaving Guarma (taking them hostage, beating up Javier, kidnapping the ship captain and ambushing Arthur). His death is also my favorite one in the game because I like the idea of the gun kick and the music that plays when he gets shot is so amazing. Perfect Red Dead villain
When I encountered De Santa for the first time in RDR, he reminded me of one of my favorite villain actors from the Winnetou movies, so I liked him immediately. And I also really like De Santa, because his missions and John's dialogues with him were my favorites in the game and he's a very entertaining character. You could clearly see that he had respect for John and didn't want to betray him. He just changed his mind because he had more respect for Allende who protected Javier and Bill and was against John. Another thing I like about de Santa is his antagonistic behavior. He tries to be evil with his words and commands, but stays away from leading battles. So in my opinion de Santa can be hated for betraying John but he's a very interesting and perfectly written character. Really enjoyed playing as him in Redemption Multiplayer.
Why the Double-Action Revolver is my favorite gun:
In the Winnetou movies almost everyone used a Colt New Model 1892 Double-Action Revolver, so this model was my imagination of a Revolver. When I got it in RDR1 I was so happy to finally play with my favorite gun and the Revolver was just amazing! Insane fire rate, good accuracy and a beautiful sound. Unfortunately it's a lot worse in RDR2 but I still use it as my sidearm of choice and have a lot of fun with it, especially dual-wielding it!
Thank you so much for reading my blog! I love these games and the Wiki!
