For the Red Dead Redemption variant, see War Horse.

This handsome iron-grey-colored Ardennes War Horse can always be relied on in the heat of the battle. With greater courage and stamina than the average steed, this is a horse that knows how to keep its head under fire.
Newswire description

The War Horse is a horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The War Horse is an iron-grey horse. Its description mentions that it is a reliable mount during combat, as well as possessing above average stamina.

The War Horse is available for players who pre-order Red Dead Redemption 2.[1]

It can also be found via a single breed of horse called the Ardennes found in Armadillo, and can be rarely bought in the Scarlet Meadows Stable, Strawberry Stable, and the Van Horn Stable.

  • The War Horse is a draft horse, horses typically bred for hard tasks such as pulling heavy equipment and carriages easier. They were primarily used on farms but also in wars to pull large artillery guns.
  • The War Horse's breed is an Ardennes, a fairly short but very heavily built draft horse originating from Belgium, which was also crossbred with the Belgian horse breed to increase the size and height of the Ardennes. The War Horse's in-game height might come from practice of American breeders to breed their horses for height over weight.
  • A bright-colored version of the horse breed can be found in Red Dead Redemption under the name Ardennais. The Redemption version appears to be leaner.
