Who is Not Without Sin is a mission in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Mission Overview[]

Arthur goes to find out what Reverend Swanson is doing at Flatneck Station.

Story[]

Arthur arrives at Flatneck Station to look for Reverend Swanson. He finds him beyond intoxicated, playing poker with two men named Luther and Marvin. After he passes out, Luther asks Arthur to play the Reverend's hand.

If Arthur does, he will play poker with the men until either one of them busts out, until five hands have been played, or if the player decides to simply leave the game. Arthur gets up to leave, and notices that Swanson has gone.

Arthur searches for him, and finds him being beaten by a man. Arthur fights the man and defeats him, then chases after a nearby shepherd, who had seen the fight, and stops him from getting the law. The Reverend is then seen on the railway bridge, and has gotten his foot stuck in the tracks. Arthur runs onto the bridge and barely manages to save him from a passing train, after which Swanson apologises to Arthur for all the trouble he caused and passes out again. Arthur takes Swanson back to camp, and leaves him in his tent to sleep it off.

Trivia[]

  • This title is kind of a reference to John 8:7, which quotes Jesus in regard to the woman caught in adultery: "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her" (NIV).
  • It is possible to kill Marvin and Luther using a dynamite before initiating the mission.[1]
  • If greeting gang members while carrying Swanson, they'll make comments regarding his drunken state.
  • It seems that the odds of winning the poker game in this mission are always in the player's favor. Arthur usually receives a winning hand, making it easy to gain a few dollars playing. As ambient challenges can be completed during mission replays, replaying this mission for the final gambler challenge (win 3 hands of poker in a row) can make beating it easier.
  • Even if Arthur manages to bust any of the two players out they will not leave the table like they would do in a normal gameplay.
  • If the player points their weapon at the two men at the train station, they will raise their hands up and start running away.
  • If the stranger that attacks Swanson is ignored, he will beat Swanson to death, failing the mission.
  • Killing the stranger will not net an honor decrease, but killing the shepherd will.
  • If Arthur sees Swanson getting tangled up on the train tracks after completing "A Quiet Time", Arthur will comment that it reminds him of when he and Lenny are in a similar drunk situation, and will also recall that he woke up in the same station that Swanson is in (if the player managed to escape capture by the lawmen).
  • If the railroad bridge is in Arthur's view, the camera will focus on Swanson walking on it. If there's something blocking the view however, a short cutscene will play showing Swanson on the bridge so the player knows where to go. Even if the cutscene plays, Arthur automatically knows Swanson is on the bridge, despite not having seen him there.
  • If the player picks up the body of the knocked out stranger and stows it on the horse before saving Swanson from the train, the stranger's body will be on the ground instead of being on the horse after the cutscene plays out.
  • If the shepherd is attacked before or during the fight with the stranger, an immediate WANTED status will be gained thus failing the mission.
  • If Arthur fires a shot while Swanson is on the back of the horse, the latter will wake up and ask what is going on.
  • If the player goes to the red portion of West Elizabeth's map with Swanson stowed on horseback, the whole area except Blackwater will be free to explore without any Pinkertons spawning. However, exploration into New Austin remains impossible, as the invisible sniper will still kill the player if they try to enter said territory.
    • This also allows the player to complete the Horseman 9 Challenge.
  • After getting Swanson on the back of their horse, the player can kill and skin all of the sheep, which is enough to meet all of the trappers requirements.
  • With Swanson stowed on it, Arthur can ride his horse into and around camp without being ordered to dismount.
  • Arthur can eschew stowing Swanson on his horse and simply walk to camp with Swanson over his shoulder, although it would take much longer to do so.
