Woody is a member of Walton's Gang and appears to be close with Link Huston. He has a relative, Willie Swenson, buried in Blackwater cemetery.
Events of Red Dead Redemption[]
He can usually be found in or around the Saloon at Armadillo, hanging around other members of Walton's Gang, or playing Poker in the backroom. He is almost always drunk and drinks from a battle. During the Twin Rocksgang hideout, Woody is the outlaw holding the woman hostage and warns the player to leave. Woody also appears in the mission "Political Realities in Armadillo" where he is one of the gang members guarding Walton in Pleasance House.
During the nighttime, he and Link seep behind the blacksmith in Armadillo.
Rarely, Woody can also be encountered camping during the day not too far from Armadillo with another gang member. If the player approaches the campsite calmly, Woody and his companion will not attack him.

In multiplayer, Woody will not be holding a woman hostage during the Twin Rocks gang hideout.
With the addition of the Liars and CheatsDLC, Woody can also be encountered at the Venter's Place and Critchley's Ranch gang hideouts, although he will only spawn once when the player arrives at the hideouts. Unlike the other Walton's Gang members, he will not spawn in the reinforcements.
His name and quotes suggests that he may have Swedish heritage.
He and Alfie Scruggs are the only members of Walton's gang who aren't bounty targets.
Woody Swenson is the only Walton's Gang member that can be dueled. However, dueling Woody requires cheating at poker.
He wears a glove on only one arm in a similar manner to Uncle.
Woody appeared to have been a traveling outlaw before joining Walton's gang, as his relative lived in Blackwater, which is located quite far from Armadillo.
